WHO IS SHAUN COLEMAN AND WHAT IS PIPSQUEAK GAMES?

 

Pipsqueak Games is me, Shaun Coleman. I'm a solo game developer based in Brisbane, Australia.

 

In other words, I'm some guy who jumped into making a game for iOS with very little prior experience and an excess of optimism and naivety. Unsurprisingly I had a lot to learn and it took a long time. The result of my efforts is Shoot The Moon.

 

 

WHAT IS SHOOT THE MOON?

 

A challenging score-chasing game crafted around an intuitive risk vs reward mechanic. You must shoot the ever-moving, ever-singing moon. Longer shots are harder but score more points. Repeated long shots lead to even higher point bonuses. It is a game with a very stubborn moon with a lot of character.

WHY IS THE ANDROID RELEASE MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER THE iOS RELEASE?

 

I originally coded the game in Objective-C (using the Cocos2d framework), which meant it was limited to Apple platforms. Later, after deciding to attempt an Android version, I spent several months intermittently exploring the possibility of using cross-compilation solutions to port my existing code, but remained unconvinced that the result would be satisfactory. Eventually I bit the bullet and decided to remake the entire game specifically for Android using Unity in conjunction with the Futile code-centric framework. That took almost five months, but I'm very pleased with the result. I only wish I had made that difficult decision sooner.

 

 

YOU WORKED ON IT ALONE?

 

Yes. I take care of design, coding, art, music, sound, and testing. And also marketing and making cups of tea. My marketing is very poor, but my cups of tea are adequate. I'm quite happy working alone, however there's no denying that it can be a long and difficult process.
